Musicians, Poets,
and other Wild Life
Philippa Jane Ellis is a Cheshire-based artist whose work focuses on musicians, poets and wildlife, alongside landscape pieces influenced by the Peak District.
She works mainly in acrylic, charcoal and pastel on textured surfaces, building colour and surface through layered processes.
Her portraits explore individuality, presence and expression, while her wildlife and landscapes reflect the character and atmosphere of place - particularly the upland areas around Derbyshire and the North West.
Philippa's solo exhibition "Musicians, Poets and Other Wild Life" brings these strands together, showing how music, people, nature and environment can sit in one body of work.

My work includes portraits of musicians, imagined scenes from poetry, characterful wildlife paintings, and landscape pieces influenced by the Peak District.
Some of the portraits and paintings are inspired by songs, lyrics and written work.
Mainly painting in acrylic and mixed media on textured surfaces, the thread that runs through it all is character and presence — whether that’s in a face, an animal or a landscape.
I’m particularly drawn to atmospheric scenes and to ideas around consciousness and inner experience.
I invite you to interpret each painting in your own way.
About
Phillippa Jane Ellis is a self-taught, Cheshire-based artist, living on the edge of the Peak District — a landscape that remains a constant source of inspiration.
As she reflects on this thing called life, she finds that her ideas come from many places — from musicians past and present who gave something truly unique to the world through their music and lyrics, from poems that seem to mean even more as time goes on, and from animals with their individual character and presence — we are all animals really, just a bit different.
Her work includes portraits of musicians and poets, wildlife paintings, and landscape pieces influenced by the Peak District itself. Some of the portraits and paintings are inspired by songs, lyrics and written work.
Through a process of layering and blending colours and mediums, she strives to infuse her work with a certain emotional intensity.
